Q&A: Author Jennifer Haymore!

Welcome to Rex Robot Reviews, Jennifer!

Can you tell us a little bit about your novel A Season of Seduction and the inspiration behind it?
Thanks so much for having me—I’m thrilled to be here!

Here’s a blurb about A Season of Seduction:
Although the widowed Lady Rebecca has sworn off marriage, men are another matter. London's cold winter nights have her dreaming of warmer pursuits-like finding a lover to satisfy her hungry heart. Someone handsome, discreet, and most importantly as uninterested in marriage as she is. Someone like Jack Fulton.

A known adventurer and playboy, Jack seems like the perfect choice. There's just one problem: Jack isn't interested in an affair. He needs the beautiful, mysterious Lady Rebecca to be his wife. And he doesn't have much time to persuade her. A secret from Jack's past is about to surface, and by Christmas Day he'll be either married to Rebecca or hanging from a noose.

A Season of Seduction was really inspired by the heroine, Lady Rebecca, who was a young, foolish, and altogether weak secondary character in my first two books (A Hint of Wicked and A Touch of Scandal). I brainstormed for days about the best way for Becky to earn her happily ever after. First and foremost, I knew she needed to grow up and change, and I knew I needed a powerful catalyst for her to do that. That catalyst came in the form of Jack Fulton, who is nothing of what Becky thinks he is at first but ends up being the perfect mate for her.

What type of research did you find necessary for your novel?
I do all kinds of research, from language to clothing to government to how to behave in polite society. I find that I do the research that’s required as I’m writing the scene, and I try to limit the time I spend doing it (otherwise I could happily drown myself in research for weeks at a time).

I absolutely loved the chemistry between Rebecca and Jack- what helps you create a compatible couple?
Thank you! I think I approach the couple a little differently with every book. In A Season of Seduction,I had a heroine I knew very well from my previous books, so I knew what kind of hero she would want (and ultimately need), and I also knew what attribute I could give a man that would completely destroy her. I gave Jack both of those characteristics…which made for a pretty rocky road for this couple!

Is there a scene in A Season of Seduction that you would absolutely refuse to cut above all others? Which scene?
That’s easy, but it’s hard to describe without giving away a major spoiler to the plot… Hmmm…let’s just put it this way: It was the scene when Jack finds Becky just after she’s discovered his secret, and not only is she devastated, but she’s absolutely furious…and she makes sure Jack understands she’s not one to be trifled with.

I know Historical Romance is one of my favorite genres, but have you ever considered dipping into another genre?
I love history and I love writing historical romance. If I could dip into one other genre, it would be young adult—I’d love to write books my kids could read!

How do your interests influence your writing?
I think my interests are really reflected in my heroes and heroines. For example, Jack is a sailor who’s been to the South Pacific. I love the sea and sailing, and I’ve been to the South Pacific (on a sailboat) and would love to go again. Becky has spent tons of time researching human anatomy and healing, which is something I tend to do whenever anyone in my family has a health issue.

So, what comes next? Any other releases or works in progress you're excited about?
I’m really excited about my next few books: The Donovan Series. These books tell the stories of five impoverished sisters whose mother sends them from their home in the Caribbean to London to find rich husbands. Needless to say, the marriage matches don’t work out quite like dear Mama had planned!

Thank you so much for stopping by! I can't wait to read more of your work. Do you have any parting words for our readers?
Thanks so much for having me! I hope those of you who give A Season of Seduction a try will let me know what you think of it! And…I know it’s a little early, but A Season of Seduction takes place during the holiday season, so I hope you all have wonderful holidays this year!
