My Review:
I have read stories of humans with some very unique supernatural abilities, but the ability to “smell” the dead is a new one. I was instantly intrigued with the path this author was choosing with this new concept.

Of course nothing is exactly as it seems as teenager Vanessa Stennings, known to everyone as “Yuki,” smells the dead, just not in the way we may think. She is not surrounded by the smells of rotting corpses, but what her ability provides her could be considered just as bad. The smells seem to differ and are more symbolic. Her and her closest friend Calvin have nicknamed her ability “smell impressions” as the smells seem to provide Yuki with clues as to how she can help the dead who seek her out for help. As the dead become more desperate for her help the smells become more intense and often overwhelm Yuki. The only cure to erase the smell that haunts her is to help the dead with whatever unfinished business they may have.

The beginning of senior year is proving quite hectic for Yuki as she is forced to investigate and save a new lost soul, all the while everything else in her life seems to be changing and more confusing. Calvin is acting bizarre and has acquired a new smell of his own that Yuki can’t quite make sense of and she is becoming plagued with unsettling dreams that seem more real than possible. It’s a unique story of discoveries that keeps you guessing with what could possibly be revealed next.

I thought the story was good. It kept my attention and the ideas behind it were quite intriguing. The characters were very likable and I found myself rooting for all of them in their own adventures. However, the writing is not overtly detailed. I felt like it jumped from one big event to a bigger event too quickly and was a little disappointed with the outcomes of certain situations. The ending completely drops off. There is almost no closure, which is a little frustrating as well. I guess I should make sure to keep my eye out for the second book- Spirit Storm. :)

Overall though it was an awesome story with great plot, the only real flaw was that it had to end. I suggest this book to those that love the Paranormal and Young Adult reads. Make sure to read this now!! It is a quick, perfect read for Halloween.
