I’d rather face a dozen lethal assassins any night than deal with something as tricky, convoluted, and fragile as my feelings. But here I am. Gin Blanco, the semi-retired assassin known as the Spider. Hovering outside sexy businessman Owen Grayson’s front door like a nervous teenage girl.
One thing I like about Owen: he doesn’t shy away from my past—or my present. And right now I have a bull’s-eye on my forehead. Cold-blooded Fire elemental Mab Monroe has hired one of the smartest assassins in the business to trap me. Elektra LaFleur is skilled and efficient, with deadly electrical elemental magic as potent as my own Ice and Stone powers. I intend to kill LaFleur—or die trying—because Mab wants the assassin to take out my baby sister, Detective Bria Coolidge, too. The only problem is, Bria has no idea I’m her long-lost sibling . . . or that I’m the murderer she’s been chasing through Ashland for weeks. And what Bria doesn’t know just might get us both dead. . . .
Tangled Threads is the gritty, dangerously smart fourth installment in the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep. This book is an awesome addition to the series. There were a few parts that lagged for me and I admittedly skimmed those chapters, but I would read this novel again. I would read this entire series multiple times. Wouldn't recommend this as a standalone novel, you would be missing out on too much brilliance in the first three novels.
Gin is probably my favorite heroine out of any fantasy series. She's real, she's raw, she's kick ass- and too bad for all those gorgeous men in her life, she knows how to guard her feelings. And she's got one helluva great man at her side too. No I'm not talking about our charming Finn either- though he is there and hilarious throughout this book. I'm talking Owen. Sigh. Owen. I love Owen. He is dangerous, witty and kind. His relationship with Gin is adorable and sweet- watching it evolve in this novel is wonderful. But can Gin finally let her guard down and have a normal relationship? Trust a man with her heart? Lets hope so. I don't want Owen going anywhere.
The intense plot in Gin's newest adventure doesn't disappoint. Hard to go wrong with explosive action and killer fight scenes, and lots of them. I'm really looking forward to the fifth installment to see Gin and Bria, her long lost sister, establish a relationship. There are so many relationships and plots evolving and escalating- Estep is doing a fabulous job working up to the huge fight between Mab and Gin. I'm praying it is in the next novel, I want a show down! I'm bracing myself to be blown away, this series's potential grows with each book.
I really like this series- mostly because of the characters, each exhilarating in their own way. I highly recommend this series to any Urban Fantasy fan.
