Giveaway & Guest Post: Winging It by Deborah Cooke!

More Dragonfire
by Deborah Cooke

My Dragonfire series features heroes who are dragon shape shifters - they call themselves the Pyr - and each book features the firestorm of one dragon hero. The firestorm is the mark of a Pyr meeting his destined mate - in biological terms the one human woman who can bear his son - and sparks literally fly between the two of them until their partnership is consummated. One of the challenges in writing a longer series is keeping each book distinctive so I'm always trying to think of ways to mix things up.

In book #6, DARKFIRE KISS, an ancient and disruptive force called darkfire was set free. Its influence on the Pyr is unpredictable as we saw in that book, which I thought was fun. It's not a huge spoiler to tell those who haven't read the book that the Pyr have been revealed to humans, thanks to the darkfire's influence.

But darkfire is going to make more trouble than that, partly by challenging the assumptions of the Pyr guys and the relationships they have with each other. KISS OF FIRE, the first Dragonfire book, featured a hero who had chosen to avoid his fellow Pyr. I always knew there were more loner dragons out there, but Erik, the leader of the Pyr, insisted that he had promised to maintain their privacy. The darkfire is messing with that, and combined with firestorms, it will compel two dragons who would rather be alone to join the Pyr team.

FLASHFIRE is Dragonfire #7 and will be published in January 2012 (http://www.deborahcooke.com/flash.html). It features Lorenzo, who we have met briefly in earlier books, and who is not always supportive of Erik's agenda. He's a powerful dragon and a stage illusionist, and he has a plan for a disappearing act that will give him the privacy he wants. Lorenzo likes to control all of the variables, but he's not planning on a firestorm, much less one with Cassie, a celebrity photographer who never backs away from a mystery.

EMBER'S KISS is Dragonfire #8 and will be published in October 2012. It also features a longer dragon, but one that's nearly in the clutches of the Slayer Chen. Will the firestorm save him or push him into Chen's control? I'll tell everyone more about that book in the new year.

Since FLASHFIRE features a bit of a bad boy dragon, tell me what you prefer - a dragon who's a gentleman, or one with more edge?

  1. I think I would like one who is a gentleman.

  2. I think I would want a combination of both. I like the bad boy image but I would like him to secretly be a gentleman under it all. :) Congratulations of your upcoming release of Flashfire! Sounds fabulous!

  3. Oh, the edge. Without a doubt. Such a big big fan of your work.

  4. Definitely one with more edge. Lots of fun to read about, but not so fun in real life.

  5. im going to have to go with a bad boy with more of an edge!.. but can still be a gentleman when the situation calls for it!!

  8. I would prefer one with more of an edge. Love Deborah's books.

  9. I believe I'd prefer a dragon with more edge, it would be a lot more fun.

  10. I think I'd prefere a dragon with an edge. Cuz they're more unpredictable! ;-)

  11. I go with the gentleman, I'm edgy enough and it would be fun to drag a gentleman out of his comfort zone.

  12. A dragon with an edge, of course :)

  13. This comment is from Deb, the author!!

    Thanks everyone for commenting. It looks like the edgey dragon boys have
    the lead! Lorenzo is going to work for a lot of you. (He really works
    for me.)

    @Rebecca Royce - thank you!
    @CrystalGB - thank you!

  14. I like gentlemen with hidden depth, ex. Mr. Darcy.
