Giveaway & Guest Post! Gerry Bartlett!!!

What do I do when I’m not writing?
A Guest Post by Gerry Bartlett

Guess I’ll have to confess that I spend way too much time shopping. Lucky for me I have a business where that’s a requirement. I rent a booth at Somewhere In Time, an antique store on the Strand in Galveston. So I’m always on the prowl for goodies to keep it filled. Customers would tell you it’s already full. But I can always cram in a few more things. I love vintage purses, hats and hankies. And then there’s the jewelry. Who can resist a ring made of sterling and turquoise or marcasite? I haunt consignment shops and estate sales looking for bargains that I can resell at a profit.

Even when I took a trip to England and Scotland last summer to see Castle Campbell where the hero in my Real Vampires series is from, I did a lot of shopping for the store. The friends I traveled with had a car and we hit one of the largest flea markets I’d ever seen held at a race course in central England. Fabulous. I found Victorian hat pins and small porcelain pieces I could fit into my carry-on luggage. Of course the real purpose of the trip was to soak up the atmosphere of Scotland for the book I’m writing now—REAL VAMPIRES KNOW HIPS HAPPEN. That one comes out in March, 2013. Glory St. Clair, the star of the series, goes to Scotland to try to repair her relationship with her main squeeze, Jeremiah Campbell aka Jeremy Blade. I really wanted to see the castle that I had researched on-line early in the series. So I took the trip. It was wonderful to actually be there and it was open for tours. I have a real feel for the place now and got lots of story ideas.
Yes, traveling is another thing I do when I should be writing. I’m off to Chicago this week for the Romantic Times Conference. I’m driving there from Texas with two writer friends and will enjoy shopping along the way whenever I see a likely antique store. Sometimes there are bargains to be had there too. So you see, I can combine two hobbies in one! I hope readers here will share what they love to collect or where they like to travel.

And there are two copies of my new release, REAL VAMPIRES HATE SKINNY JEANS, available for US readers to win. So post here for a chance. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

  1. That's such a cute cover - this book sounds awesome! :)

  2. I love flea markets, antique shops, and estate sales. I've always wanted to travel to Scotland and England.

  3. Your book sounds great! Gotta love the title! :) I like going to flea markets and yard sales. During the summer, its the one thing i really look forward to! So much fun! Have fun in Chicago! I hope i can attend one of these events and soon! :) Enjoy! And thank you for sharing and for the giveaway!

  4. I'm not sure why, but I love to collect turtles; I have lots of cute figurines all over the house. Of course, I love to collect books too, I just keep buying new bookshelves, and running out of space. :D
I love to travel, but mostly I've only traveled to visit my son when he lived in Florida, then I moved here and now I go to California to visit my sister and friends. One of these days I'm going to at least go on a cruise, and my dream trip is to visit Great Britain.

  5. I have been wanting to red this series. I love paranormal stories with humor added, following many. I would LOVE to win a copy of this one to read.

  6. I'd love to win a copy to add to the rest of this series which sits on my shelf when they are not being read. If you haven't read this series yet, you really should remedy that. This series is very funny and totally charming. It is very different from the typical vampire books available. :D

  7. I collect elephants. I have a curio filled to the brim with them.

In regards to traveling, I want to visit Scotland. Over a year ago, I did a sudden trip with a GF to Ireland. I tried and tried to squeeze in Scotland, with no luck. If she would have mentioned the trip sooner I could have made it. I even had a place or two to stay. Loved Ireland, glad I went, but major disappointment that I didn't get to Scotland.

  8. I don't really collect items that are the same thing, I collect items that have stories with them at estate sales. For example, I found a metal butter dish that was from the late 1800's, and the woman's great grandson told me how they used it for years.

  9. I love vampires and (real) vintage and stylish accessories too. I am Italian but I have family in California, so I can say I'm half American :D I hope I can participate in the fabulous giveaway :)

    thank you,

  10. The title sounds great!edysicecreamlover18@gmailDOTcom Thank you for the chance to win!

  11. How interesting that there is a real Castle Campbell. I enjoy this series, but wished so much didn't focus on Glory obsessing about her weight. After 400 years, you'd think she wouldn't sweat the small stuff (or not so small).

  12. Sounds lie a funny book.

  16. I find shopping fun when what I want happens to be on sale. That's what makes it fun. Although, sometimes the fun in shopping is not really the buying part but just seeing the things and dreaming about them :) I hope you have fun at the RT Conference. I wish I was there.
