Book Summary:
Grace and Sam share a kinship so close they could be lovers or siblings. But they also share a problem. When the temperature slips towards freezing, Sam reverts to his wolf identity and must retreat into the woods to protect his pack. He worries that eventually his human side will fade away and he will be left howling alone at the lonely moon. A stirring supernatural teen romance.

Shannon's Thoughts:
Yes, I am finally getting around to reading the Mercy Falls series!  I’ve been waffling on it (werewolves are so not my thing), but I loved Stiefvater’s The Scorpio Races so much (seriously - it makes it into my top five books of all time), so I decided to bite the bullet and start this incredibly popular series.  And, I’m happy to report, I was very glad I did!

I enjoy Stiefvater’s easy writing style.  Some parts are a little eye-roll inducing, such as Grace’s incessant need to refer to Sam as “My Wolf” early on.  And I could have done without Sam’s emo lyrics he makes up in his head.  But, Grace and Sam are both extremely likable characters.  Thankfully the angst and flowery description of love are kept to a minimum.  Also, I am happy that they didn’t go on and on about werewolf lore and I appreciate that the werewolves are really just...wolves.  Not slobbering crazed beasts.  The story is kept fairly small and mostly centers on Grace and Sam.  Some other stuff happens, but it isn’t really an action packed book.  But it is pretty entertaining throughout the entirety and I am excited to go back for more!

As a side note, the publisher's blurb is so weird.  Why would you say "so close they could be siblings or lovers"?  It makes it sound so creepy!  And "howling at the lonely moon"?  I'm beginning to remember why I was reluctant to read this series.  If anything, the book is at least better than that blurb!

Books in the series in the order they should be read:
1. Shiver
2. Linger
3. Forever

  1. I've heard a lot of good things about this series, but never had any interest in it. I've never actually read anything by Maggie and am starting with THE RAVEN BOYS. I guess if I like it I will check out some of her other books as well.

  2. I love this series! It's so emotionally ridden and they really fought. It's truly a romance novel.

  3. Andrea, I was really on the fence about it too. But I'm glad I'm finally reading it. My first Stiefvater book was the Scorpio Races, which I LOVED!! That is definitely worth checking out.
