Shannon's Quick Thoughts:
The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder follows Amber as she takes a day to herself to spend at the beach in Oregon.  Her plans change when she meets Cade, who also decided to take a day at the beach.  They both are trying to spend one day without worrying about their uncertain futures.  Amber begins to find hope in Cade. As she gets to know Cade, she also finds that he has a secret.  She wants to help him, but has to figure out how to reach him and be a beacon of hope for him as well. By doing so, Amber finds strength to face the next day.

The Day Before is one of the most unique books I have read in awhile.  It is written in verse and filled with rich symbolism and meaning. I love that this is written in verse!  It adds a beautiful lyricism to the story and allows the author to express emotions in a completely different way than traditional storytelling.  The Day Before is a definite must for anyone who needs courage to find their way in the dark and an excellent read for teenagers. Highly recommend!
