Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Authors in Fantasy Genre

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list  that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

Top Ten Favorite Authors In Fantasy Genre

Obviously, there are some well known heavy weights in this genre, especially in adult fantasy (R. R. Martin, anyone?).  But the authors I choose are either old favorites of mine or more recently discovered authors who blew me away.

1. Julia Kagawa (Iron Fey series, Iron Prince, Immortal Rules)
2. Terry Pratchett (Discworld series, Wee Free Men series, Bromeliad series)
3. Garth Nix (Abhorsen series, Keys to the Kingdom series)
4. J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter series)
5. Jennifer A. Nielsen (Ascendance Trilogy, Underworld Chronicles)
6. Rae Carson (Fire and Thorn series)
7. Kristin Cashore (Graceling series)
8. Leigh Bardugo (Shadow and Bone)
9. Megan Whalen Turner (The Queen's Thief series)
10. Gail Carson Levine (Ella Enchanted, A Tale of Two Castles, Two Princesses of Bamarre)
11. Neil Gaiman (Graveyard Book, Coraline, Stardust, Neverwhere, American Gods, Anansi Boys)

What are some of your favorite fantasy authors?

  1. J.K. Rowling and Julie Kagawa are two of my favorites too! I'm not a huge fan of Fantasy, but those two are exceptions.

Great list! Check out my Top Ten

  2. Eeeppp!!! Kristin Cashore!!! Now that you mention her, I feel like I wanna re-read Graceling. Awesome list! :D

    Here's my Top 10

  3. Fantasy is one of my favorite genres, so I'm a bit ashamed to say I haven't read the majority of authors on your list. But I do recognize all of them at least! :P Gail Carson Levine and Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom series were some of my favorite books in middle school. I'll have to check out these authors pronto!

    1. Alysson, if you liked Keys of the Kingdom, you should definitely read the Abhorsen series. :)

  4. Julie Kagawa :D For sure!
J.K Rowling, no list is complete without her!

    TTT fairytales authors @thedailyprophecy.
