Book Summary:
Nothing is certain and no one is safe in the second book in the highly praised Dust Lands trilogy.

It seemed so simple: Defeat the Tonton, rescue her kidnapped brother, Lugh, and then order would be restored to Saba’s world. Simplicity, however, has proved to be elusive. Now, Saba and her family travel west, headed for a better life and a longed-for reunion with Jack. But the fight for Lugh’s freedom has unleashed a new power in the dust lands, and a formidable new enemy is on the rise.

What is the truth about Jack? And how far will Saba go to get what she wants? In this much-anticipated follow-up to the riveting Blood Red Road, a fierce heroine finds herself at the crossroads of danger and destiny, betrayal and passion

Shannon's Thoughts:
Rebel Heart is a bit of a heartbreaker.  Saba is reunited with her brother, Lugh, but Lugh is not the same as he once was.  Saba hopes for a reunion with Jack, but those plans gets sidelined.  Saba learns of a resistance against the Tonton and quickly gets caught up in their fight.  She struggles to understand the person her brother has become and desperately misses Jack.  But when she is reunited with some old friends, she learns something about Jack that seems to awful to be true.  Also, DeMalo is still around and not far behind.  The action is definitely high and intense.  Saba lives in a dangerous world.  But, I do miss Saba and Jack together.  They spend most of the book apart, unfortunately.  However, I did enjoy the reemergence of some familiar faces and I really liked some of the new characters we meet.  Saba is still as crabby as ever and I love her for it.  The ending might upset some people, but I am very curious to see where Young takes it.  Maybe life will finally get easier for Saba in the final book?

Books in the series in the order they should be read:
1. Blood Red Road
2. Rebel Heart
