Book Summary:
Violet can sense the echoes of those who've been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.

As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she'd turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike's tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.

Shannon's Thoughts:
Desires of the Dead takes place shortly after The Body Finder.  Violet is trying to live a normal life with Jay now that they are officially a couple.  She is trying to put the events from the previous book behind her.  But, of course, things get tricky.  Violet starts to hear echoes again and gets herself a stalker.   We get to meet some new characters and that was kind of fun.

I had hoped that some of the kinks of the first novel would be worked out in the second novel.  But, unfortunately, that didn't happen.  I still think the concept is interesting and somewhat unique.  But the writing lacked finesse and nuance.  At times it was just a little too over the top.  I also thought that while the concept was strong, the delivery wasn't.  Some of the plot was just so obvious.  I saw the plot twists way before they happened and so the Big Reveal didn't have much impact.  I really couldn't connect to the characters.  I couldn't get a good feel on their personalities. I had a hard time being invested in their storylines.  I know a lot of people really like this series, so if it sounds interesting I suggest giving it a go.  You may end up loving it!
Books in the series in the order they should be read:
1. The Body Finder
2. Desires of the Dead
3. The Last Echo
4. Dead Silence (expected publication April 2013)
