Book Summary:
Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

Shannon and Julia's Thoughts:
It's time for another joint review!  Hooray!

1.  What did you think about Everbound as a whole?
Julia: Everbound is entertaining. I can't even put my finger on what possessed me to keep on reading, because when I think back on it, nothing really stands out as great to me. Well, I take that back, Cole's character is great. He's what keeps me flipping the pages. He isn't predictable and I think he is funny. This isn't a series I'll read again, but I definitely enjoyed the (quick) ride.

Shannon: I agree.  I liked it, but if I had to break down what exactly I liked about it, I'm not sure I could.  At first I had a hard time getting into the story, but once it hit the back half, it started to get really exciting.  I agree also about Cole.  He breathes some life into the story and keep it propelling forward.

2. What was your favorite part?  What was your least favorite part?
Julia: My favorite part was the little twist at the end courtesy of Cole. I would say more, but then that would be spoiling it, right? My least favorite part is Nikki and her selfish mouth and actions. I guess because I just can't understand or relate to any of her decisions. This also made the story entertaining though :)
Shannon: My favorite part was the ending as well!  After it happened I was like "Boom!  Now what?!".  I think it will push Nikki to wake up and crawl out of her frightened little shell.  My least favorite part was the plotting.  The first half dragged for me.  The first book, Everneath, felt moody and atmospheric as Nikki struggled to come back after being gone for 6 months.  But Everbound dragged it on too much for me.

3.  What surprised you?
Julia: The ending! I don't know why I didn't see that coming. Cole is a smarty pants ;) Thank goodness for him, he saves this book for me!
Shannon: Yes the ending!  I won't lie, I cackled with glee when I read what happened.

4. Nikki, Nikki, Nikki...when are you going to learn?
Julia: NEVER. She will NEVER learn! Agh!!!! I don't even have anything to say other than frustraaaaation.
Shannon: What was her problem?!  I felt like she dropped 50 IQ points.  She relied on everyone else to help her and was useless almost.  She also had a horrible habit of parroting everything that was said to her.  And really, if an Everliving is telling you that something in the Everneath isn't as it seems...you should probably take his word for it.  Just sayin'.

5. Cole:  Badass with a heart of gold, or just bad?
Julia: I hope he is bad, with a little fleck of gold. You know, that gold spot is *purely* reserved for his lady friend (groan) Nikki. haha. The bad makes life more challenging and entertaining. But no, I think he has some good in him. Just enough. Dear Nikki, you went into the Everneath of your own free will! Stop blaming Cole!
Shannon: Oh Cole.  I think he does really care about Nikki, but he definitely looks out for himself first.  I think he has some good in him too.  I'm very interested to see what happens to him in the third book.

6. What do you think about this series on a whole?
Julia: I'm going to finish it out. I loved how the author finished this book and it was SO MUCH better than book one. It doesn't really bring out much passion in me though, I still don't care that much about any of the characters (except for Cole, if I haven't made that obvious!) I REALLY don't care about Jack, I would not feel bad at all if he died. I would be like, oh good, we can move on now. :)
Shannon: It's funny, I actually liked the first book better I think.  Something was just a tad off in this second one.  I think I didn't like how dumb and naive Nikki got in this book.  But overall, I think it is an interesting series.  It is a different than other Underworld series.  And I think it is well written.
Books in the series in the order they should be read:
1. Everneath
2. Everbound
