Top Ten Tuesdays: Beach Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list  that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

Top Ten Beach Reads

Shannon's Picks:

1.  The Honest Toddler: A Child's Guide to Parenting by Bunmi Laditan
If you have a toddler at home, then you know.  You KNOW.  This book is hilarious and hits very close to the mark.  Humor books are always great for beach reads because you can basically pick it up any time.

The Honest Toddler: A Child's Guide to Parenting

2. Books by David Sedaris
His essays are witty, cutting and hilarious.  I love essay style books for the beach because again, you can just read them in short spurts.

Me Talk Pretty One Day Naked

3. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyers
This series is so much fun!  Lots of action, romance, and adventure!

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)

4. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
This is another series that is so much fun.  I seriously hyperventilate when I think about it.  The second book just came out and I devoured it.

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2)

5.Books by Jodi Picoult
Picoult's books are always very "hot-topic" and deal with subjects that have no easy answer.  She lives for the gray area.  But they are usually extremely absorbing and easy to read.

My Sister's Keeper The Tenth Circle Nineteen Minutes

6. The Selection by Kiera Cass

I feel like people either like or hate this book.  It really is the YA equivalent of reality tv.  But if you want something fluffy, this is your book.

The Selection (The Selection, #1)

7. Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley
This is a fun series narrated by an 11 year old sleuth in Post-war England.  Flavia is a riot.

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1)

8. Books by Sarah Dessen
Sarah is one of my favorite contemporary authors.  Her books are always fun and compelling.  Plus a lot of them take place over the summer - perfect for the beach!

The Truth About Forever Along for the Ride

9.  Chet and Bernie series by Spencer Quinn
This is another mystery series I really like.  It is narrated by Chet, a dog.

Dog on It (A Chet and Bernie Mystery, #1)
10. Books by Mary Roach
Mary Roach's nonfiction books are awesome.  They are interesting and pretty funny.

Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void

  1. I loved THE SELECTION and I agree, definitely a fantastic beach read!

  2. Love all your choices but I'm happy to see David Sedaris and Mary Roach on that list! I love both of them and their books would be perfect for beach reading.

  3. Cinder is a great pick and Dessen made my list too.

  4. The Selection is one of my favorite books! I still have to get a copy of The Elite though. :)
