Book Summary:
Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

Julia and Shannon's Thoughts:
1. Did Heir of Fire meet your expectations?
Julia: Heir of Fire DID meet my expectations- all of them! Heir of Fire will make your heart pound, melt and break.
Shannon: Oh my gosh yes.  This series keeps getting better and better.  While I liked the first book, Throne of Glass, I didn't love it.  But the second book, Crown of Midnight, was pure awesome.  (Seriously, if anyone has any doubts after reading the first book, do yourself a favor and read the next two books.)  I didn't know if Heir of Fire could compete with Crown of Midnight, but if anything, it exceeded it.

2. How did you feel about the new characters?
Julia: The new characters are nothing short of enthralling. I loved the kitchen workers and Ronan is incredibly wise, loyal and charming. The new characters MADE this book and I really hope they're major characters in the next adventure. Also, how many love interests can one girl have? Well, to be honest, they're more or less the reader's love interests...
Shannon: Yes, Ronan!  Loved him.  He was a tough nut to crack, but the bond he and Celaena form is heartbreaking and tender.  He understood Celaena in a way that no one else can.  I also really liked the kitchen workers who provide some humanity to an otherwise tragic and heartrending story.  And let's not forget Aedion.  He was a great addition as well.  I felt Rowan and Aedion are both amazing and complex characters. Lastly, we have the witches, who quite frankly, terrified me.  They were not to be trifled with.  No, seriously.  Yikes.  The only character who I didn't feel was amazing was Dorian's love interest.  I wish there was more to her than being Dorian's love interest.

3. What did you think of Celaena's storyline?
Julia: She's finally learning to use her powers as a tool and she's unlocking lots of memories she's been trying to forget. Her storyline is fascinating and I loved taking a look into her past.
Shannon: Celaena makes an important transition in this book.  We learn about her past, which is harrowing and tragic and heartbreaking.  The depths of her guilt and pain are buried deep, deep inside of her and it all comes out in this book.  It was hard to read it, but also amazing to see where she ends up.
4. Did anything shock you?  Or turn out differently than you expected?
Julia: Sarah Maas doesn't know how to be predictable, thankfully. Heir of Fire, just like its predecessors, is completely unpredictable and refreshing. I can't say anything blew me away, but I am never bored when reading one of her stories. For whatever reason I didn't see Ronan becoming the character that he did. I love him. He is my favorite. Mysterious and he can kick ass.
Shannon: Julia and I spent a lot of time playing the "guess what happens" game.  And we were wrong.  Every single time.  Just when I thought the book was going right, it went left.  It is not predictable, that's for sure.  The ending shocked me.  Again.  Just like the ending of Crown of Midnight, I was left slack-jawed.  Amazing.
5. Was there anything you disliked?
Julia: Not that I can think of now! I am enamored with all that is this series :)
Shannon: No, not really.  Well, a teeny tiny bit of Dorian and his love interest because it was the least fleshed out part of the story.  But it does serve a larger purpose, so I can't hate it too much.  The witches were scary as hell, but I can't wait until they are more involved in the main story.  They were separated from everything happening with Chaol/Dorian/Celaena, but I think their storyline will merge in the next book.

6. How does this sequel compare to the previous books?
Julia: I pretty much already answered this question, it is a totally satisfying adventure, just like the previous two books. I can't wait until the next adventure for Celaena and Ronan. And Chaol, Dorian... everyone. Do yourself a favor and read these books!!
Shannon: Yes.  Read.  Now.  This sequel is on par if not better than the second book, which as I mentioned earlier, set the bar really high. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!

Books in the series in the order they should read:
1. Throne of Glass
2. Crown of Midnight
3. Heir of Fire
