Book Summary:
New Year's Eve ended with a bang and Mary, Kat and Lillia may not be prepared for what is to come.
After Rennie's death, Kat and Lillia try to put the pieces together of what happened to her. They both blame themselves. If Lillia hadn't left with Reeve... If Kat had only stayed with Rennie... Things could have been different. Now they will never be the same.
Only Mary knows the truth about that night. About what she is. She also knows the truth about Lillia and Reeve falling in love, about Reeve being happy when all he deserves is misery, just like the misery he caused her. Now their childish attempts at revenge are a thing of the past and Mary is out for blood. Will she leave anything in her wake or will all that remain be ashes?

Shannon's Thoughts:
This series was a super interesting one for me.  Without trying to spoil too much, the beginning of the series starts out as a fairly straightforward revenge contemporary story.  But at the end of the second book, the series goes off into a new direction.  It was a bit of a head whip, say-whaaat?, kind of ending, but you know what?  I liked it.  This final book fully commits to this new direction.

Everyone is still reeling from Rennie's death at the beginning of Ashes to Ashes and Mary is missing.  But as the shock wears off, secrets are revealed and things look like they might be on the mend.  But, just as our characters are beginning to have hope for a better future, things start going very very wrong. The last third of the book moves at a whiplash pace with an couple of major showdowns.

I thought the bittersweet ending was perfect considering how all of our main characters are irrevocably changed from their experiences and it shows in the way their lives unfold after.  I think some readers will be possibly confused by the change in direction...depending on their tolerance for the genre.  But others like me, will probably be excited about it.  I certainly didn't see it coming.  Overall though, this series is extremely readable.  I could have easily read it in one sitting.  There is some compelling about Kat, Mary and Lillia's stories. I definitely recommend checking it out!
