In the Forest of the Dead, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled, twin sisters Moria and Ashyn are charged with a dangerous task. For they are the Keeper and the Seeker, and each year they must quiet the enraged souls of the damned.

Only this year, the souls will not be quieted.

Ambushed and separated by an ancient evil, the sisters’ journey to find each other sends them far from the only home they’ve ever known. Accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a dashing condemned thief, the girls cross a once-empty wasteland, now filled with reawakened monsters of legend, as they travel to warn the emperor. But a terrible secret awaits them at court—one that will alter the balance of their world forever.

Julia and Shannon's Thoughts:
1. What were your thoughts on Sea of Shadows?
Julia: Sea of Shadows is intriguing, then confusing, then thrilling then lacking. It has a lot of potential, but fell flat.
Shannon: This book was rough for me.  I had a very hard time getting into it and I had a hard time following what was happening.  I also found the writing to be very...blunt.

2. What did you like?  What did you dislike?
Julia: I liked the creepy forest and the adversity they faced there. After they leave the forest, things get murky. The characters constantly interrupt each other and it takes away from the story.
Shannon:  I like the idea of the story.  It had all makings for a story I would really enjoy.  But then there was a lot I disliked.  My main issue is the dry writing.  I felt very removed from everything happening.

3. Did you find the story compelling?  How about the characters?
Julia: At first I did! But then, the story literally doesn't go anywhere...even when it does. The characters were fine, but didn't have the depth I was looking for.
Shannon: No, not really.  As I mentioned, I felt very disconnected from the story.  I had a very hard time staying in it and following what was happening.  It was a struggle for me to finish.

4. Will you read the sequel?
Julia: Absolutely not. It was painful getting through the second half of this book. I literally was forcing myself to read it, I don't know why.... The ending isn't very satisfying, at all.
Shannon: Nope.  To be very honest, I didn't care enough about the story or characters to even consider it.

5. How many stars would you rate this and would you recommend it?
Julia: 2.5 stars.... And no, not recommending it. I've seen a lot of reviewers that loved Kelley Armstrong's adult novels dislike it too. SO I am not even recommending it to her fans.
Shannon: Same here, 2.5 for me too.  And I don't think I can recommend it either.  There are lot more interesting books out there.

Other Books in the Series:
1. Sea of Shadow
2. Empire of the Night
3. Forest of Ruin (expected publication 2016)
